Learn the Craft Before You Begin
Three step-by-step guides covering every stage of a linseed oil paint project.
Whether you’re painting a front door, restoring historic windows, or tackling an entire building, our three step-by-step guides walk you through every stage of a successful linseed oil paint project. From surface preparation and priming to application techniques, drying times, maintenance, and long-term care, each guide is designed to give you the confidence to achieve beautiful, durable results with traditional materials.

- Remove coatings that block oil penetration, then prepare the substrate for a long-lasting finish.
- This guide covers paint removal, knot sealing, timber repairs, and the proper use of linseed putty and oakum before applying your first coat.

- Apply thin, even coats using the brushes for maximum penetration and coverage.
- Allow each coat to dry fully before recoating to achieve a smooth, durable finish that lasts.

- Refresh weathered surfaces with a simple application of boiled linseed oil to restore protection and appearance.
- No stripping, peeling, or full repainting required if kept up with the maintenance cycle.
How we craft our paint
Our paint begins in the flax fields of Yorkshire, where the raw material for our linseed oil is grown. From there, the flax is processed and the oil is carefully prepared before making the short journey to our manufacturing facility, where every batch is mixed using traditional triple-roll mills.
Unlike mass-produced paints, our pigments are slowly worked into the linseed oil through three precision-ground rollers, creating exceptional color depth, consistency, and durability. Each batch is hand-crafted in small quantities, allowing us to maintain complete control over quality from start to finish.
The result is a paint made from simple, honest ingredients, packaged without plastic wherever possible, and rooted in a tradition of craftsmanship that stretches back centuries.
