Natural, Not Synthetic

Brush Selection

The right brush is not optional.
Ethically sourced, with no harm to animals.

Natural bristle brushes are widely recognized as superior for oil-based paints because they carry and release material more effectively than synthetic alternatives.

Built for Longevity

Brushes That Work With the Material

Linseed oil paint is not applied like modern coatings. It is worked into the surface. The brush is not just a tool. It is part of the system.

The Difference Is in the Bristle – Natural, Not Synthetic

Brouns & Co brushes are made from 100% natural bristle—typically hog hair or ox hair—selected for their structure and performance with oil-based paints.

Unlike synthetic brushes:

  • Natural bristles absorb and hold linseed oil paint within the fibers
  • The microscopic split ends (flags) release paint evenly into the surface
  • The brush works the paint into the substrate, rather than dragging it across the top

This is essential. Linseed oil paint must penetrate. A synthetic brush cannot achieve the same result. Natural bristle brushes are widely recognized as superior for oil-based paints because they carry and release material more effectively than synthetic alternatives.

A Tool That Lasts

Brushes That Work With the Material

Natural bristle brushes, when used with linseed oil systems, are not disposable.

They are maintained differently:

  • Stored in linseed oil during use
  • Cleaned with linseed oil soap after completion
  • Preserved rather than stripped with solvents

Over time, the brush improves—softening slightly while retaining structure.

Like the paint itself, it is designed for long-term use.

Part of the System. Paint. Surface. Brush.

Linseed oil paint is not a standalone product.
It is a system of material relationships.

  • The paint penetrates
  • The substrate responds
  • The brush enables that interaction

If something is worth painting properly,
it is worth applying properly.

The Difference Is in the Application

Acrylic systems prioritize speed.
Linseed oil paint prioritizes performance.

And the brush is where that difference begins.
